Retaining employees used to be as simple as raising salaries and providing job security. A few decades ago, most people would be grateful just to have a stable job which led to a predictable income and benefits.

However, the employees of today are no longer driven by the same emotions as their predecessors. Instead, managers now need to embrace the “soft” side of people management and re-skill themselves in gaining new EQ-related competencies such as empathy.

Leaderonomics faculty trainer Joseph Tan shares the two forms of empathy that managers can embrace in their leadership to help retain their best talent in the organisation.
